Saxophones Alright, let's see them

In my avatar that's me playing my alto in my PJ's on Boxing day.
Sorry but the camera needs chargong and I haven't got any other sax pics. My dad also has a tenor and I have a cardboard Selma Mark 6... lol.

Thank you. Those pics come from the Kessler website, but that is actually my horn. If some of you frequent the sotw forum, you may recall that when Dave got in his first shipment of red brass altos earlier this summer, he discovered a couple of "surprises". The factory had put together several horns with either a copper bow, bell, or both. I just happened to call him the day he received them, and decided it would be neat to have such a unique horn. It plays very well - compares very favorably to my tech's trusty old Mark VI.

Not too long ago I picked up this rubber Berg from MojoBari. Loads of fun, and compliments my Morgan 7M very well.

It's not especially noticeable in the pictures, but yes. In person, you can tell a difference in the color of the yello brass posts, keyguards, etc., and the main body of the horn, which is "red brass", which has a slightly more red tint to it. The bow and bell are copper, and are easily recognizable as such.

They are great looking saxes, those Couesnon horns. I wonder if Yamaha's bell key guard design was inspired by the Couesnon design?
It's great looking and reading about the different manufacturers, especially the lesser known horn makers from yesteryear.
If Steve Howard's price indication is accurate you have some great bargains there, Chris.
Regards,
Greg Strange.

Hi Greg

But the company origins start at the same time as Adolphe Sax. Pierre Gautrot started the business in 1845. He was involved in litigation in much of the 1850's and 1860's with Adolphe Sax for claims and counterclaims of copyright infringement. Amedee Couesnon took over the business (I think he was the son in law?) in 1883.

The company, then, have been making saxophones from the start - so they should have been fairly good at it.
