Oh, I wouldn't consider that as an obstacle but a stepping stone in desire. At 13, she is now in love with music, but she is just "getting started" starting her 3rd year (if you know what I mean), so since that is still a bit way out say maybe best reserved for her high school years, once she "masters" the alto. (Does the high school have a loaner instrument program where she can double on the baritone sax?)

At that age, teens can be a little fickle at times. A little patience and encouragement, I'll bet she does fine with the alto.

She already doubles on tenor and flute but they all need a little practise before we add anything else
I don’t think she could lift one at the moment 🤣
