Can't they turn their telly up?

If they can hear you practicing you can probably hear their Songs of Praise through the walls or their aggressive early Sunday morning lawnmowing lol - we all make noise or do things that irritate each other. Personally I'd tell them to chill out and get a life - so starting a neighbour war :-D

or offer them earplugs next time they complain (or get some for yourself so you can't hear them) :laugh:

I think you'd be better off soundproofing the garage or a room away from their side.

Yeah we are converting the celler into a music room slowly. They should be able to hear their songs of praise without a problem soon. We have also tried playing along on a Sunday evening, to try and join them in their interests but they didnt like it one little bit. Mind you neither did we......... :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

I had a stroke of luck today - no work, an empty house, both sets of neighbours out, so I had my first blow in a week. The only person I wound up was me, as at times my playing was well below par :cry: Plus the house got some funny looks from passing pedestrians. I knew I should have shut that window!

I recently visited Bristol. Walked up Whiteladies road on a Saturday afternoon to hear, through the open window, the lesser spotted sax man practicing long and loud in his 2nd storey flat, caring not a jot about the passers-by or the neighbours. Lovely.

Brought a little joy to a long hot afternoon, and convinced my daughter it was the place she wanted to rent a flat.

I've had a lucky week. My neighbour (on the wingeing side) is away on holiday, and I am permanently out of work (retired) so a week of carefree blowing. They're back on Sunday, and the practice bag I've ordered is delayed (out of stock). Oh well, guess I'll just have to have some time off!
Maybe I'll go down the beach and entertain the grockles, might even earn a bob or two.

The Summer's here - find yourself a quiet pasture and let it blow - man! I used to got down by the river or into the woods and blast it out!! No substitute for freeblowing a sax!! 🙂

yep I just might do that. We have a big roundabout here in Poole, with underpasses and a pathway going right across it and i remember a few years ago someone standing in the middle playing his sax. Not busking, as very few people walk there, but thought he found a good place to practice, with the traffic whizzing all around. I wonder how many accidents he caused.
Yeah, i'll try one of the local fields. No doubt the farmer will come and say i'm disturbing his cows. Oh well could be worse, I might choose the field with the bull in!!!!!!!!!!

This is something I worry about a lot. I've had the bloke next door round only once, but I find I'm always trying to play quietly and with a tenor sax that doesn't really work. I've moved to the part of my house furthest away from the adjoining walls and shut all the dorrs in the house, and don't play after about 7pm.

I'm going to try the wardrobe idea though, sounds a bit wacky but I can see it working !

received the bag yesterday and tried it out today. The makers claim a 70% reduction in volume, i would say more like 40%.
also the opening at thetop of the bag where the neck protrudes interferes with the octave bar and some of the links at the top, making it impossi ble to play some of the right notes.
Will have to think of a way to open up the top opening, a short length of plastic tube for instance. So all in all a bit disappointing.

In another thread on the BR I do actually give an account of how a farmer told me I might get shot if I carried on practicing on a road that ran through his woods. It was the shooting season but as you're not allowed to discharge a shotgun within 50 yards (or, probably, metres these days) of a public highway I just thought he was being a tosser. Now where did I put my Smith & Wesson?

Hi Ruby
I tried getting into it but there was no room for the sax as well, so i decided the better option was to put the sax in, and stay on the outside. All i had to do then was put my hands in. Managed that ok, but the zippers on the openings a bit rough on my skin.
All is not lost though, I have now moved into the spare room on the other side of the house, the side the non-complaining neighbours live, and the sax bag i use to carry me sax to lessons.
I hope that information is beneficial to the advancement of your musical career,
