What's a Chiver?

Hi there
I've just purchased one of those gig bags which double up as a mute for my tenor, which is useless. There is a loop at the top of the bag, and the instructions tell you to attach it to the bolt that fixes the 'chiver' to the sax. I don't think this will improve things but does anyone have any idea what a 'chiver' is?
The problem with the bag is that it interferes with the octave key mechanism on the neck, making it impossible to play properly.
The makers claim 70% decrease in sound, more like 40% would be a generous estimate.
Look forward to being enlighened!!

Hi, could you stick something in the lyre bracket to hold the bag off of the octave key?

Col.

I think they mean 'neck' - this from an Italian music store ad for a soprano sax:

lacquered straight soprano saxophone
G# KEY
DOUBLE CHIVER
orignal case and accessories included.

Euro 370,00
Availability: 2 weeks

Those Italians eh? 😉

I'll give it a try. I've tried a cardboard tube aroung the neck, cut the slot where the ring protrudes to lower the bag, and a box in the bottom to raise the sax.
thanks for advice
best regards
