...for my birthday, but events conspired against me and I didn't get a chance to play with it!!!

Didn't take the day of work 'cos everyone else was out (should have taken advantage of that really!!), Mum came over to give me a present (sax stand and money towards sax), then helping wife with the dinner (pretending that I wasn't itching to get the sax out). After dinner my son wanted us to watch the DVD he got me for Fathers Day (Hot Fuzz), which he's been trying to get us to watch together for over a week. Then the DVD player wouldn't play it, so we messed about with that and eventually got the portable DVD player out and attached that to the TV. When the film finished everyone went to bed, so I didn't feel I could disturb everyone messing about with the sax!!!

Hopefully I'll get to have a go tonight (although I've been told the grass needs cutting!).

First lesson next Monday!!

Hope you had a good day, nonetheless. The lack of sax playing sounds familiar though!

Welcome to the world of "sax players with families" - it's not easy.

After a week of no time to play, I always look forward to the weekend: "thank god - I must be able to find time to play this weekend", and next thing it's 10 oclock Sunday night, I'm knackered and still no sax.

But somehow, we struggle through.

Hi Nick,

Happy birthday, I hope your sax brings you hours of pleasure, do let us know how you get on. A while ago you said something about writing a blog of your progress, I would certainly be interested to hear how you get on, if you chose to do it.

If you haven?t yet had an opportunity to play your sax then own up, how many times have you opened the case and ogled at the sax inside?

All the best,

Chris

Glad it's all ready to go Nick, now enjoy it.
Just over three months ago, I remember looking at mine and being scared to touch it in case it broke.
Unlike the baby head soft spot, they are a lot tougher than they seem, oh............... 🙁

Yes indeed, places to practise; doesn't work so well for tenor, but if you have an alto the following advice may be useful.

First, get a job as a mobile service engineer or something similar. You will get a car or van to carry out your duties. Second, always take your horn with you wherever you go. Third, get off the main roads, find a quiet spot, whip out said horn, put in a CD or tune to the radio station of your choice. Then...... play undisturbed! Yes!

Cheers, Bob

Hi

Got mine @ 3 months ago and find practicing a bit of a nightmare as after flooding my house I have had to spend the last 2 months living back with my mum. While she is slightly deaf she objects to my "Tootling" while her soaps are on.

I can't seem to play quietly as it sounds wierd and at full blast while the sound seems to be better it is also loud.

Cant wait till I can get back home and only have to worry about neighbours!!!
