TV Hell

There have been a lot of trailers on TV and radio recently for a new show (for which read variation on a theme) to find Britain's Number One Tribute Act, hosted of course by the ubiquitous and increasingly irritating Graham Norton.

I can almost see it now - various 'acts' like Robbie, the Beatles, Madonna, Kylie, Van Der Graaf Generator (shurely shome mishtake?), Abba, etc etc etc being championed or slagged by a panel of judges which of course will contain one token Mr Nasty, one Ms Lovely, and John Barrowman. Probably.

It hasn't even started yet and I'm fed up with it. Haven't we had enough culturally redundant karaoke shows recycling the same old stuff in a slightly different order purely to milk the public of its dosh paying for premium-rate dodgy phone votes yet? Can't they think of something just a bit different, or at least let Mark Lamarr present it.

Ah, but it's what the people want, isn't it? Course it is, 'cos that's all they get (ref 'Going Underground' by the Jam '...the public wants what the public gets, but I don't get what this society wants...'); Aldous Huxley only got it wrong in that soma isn't an ingestible psychotropic drug, it's what comes out of your TV on a Saturday evening.

I say don't encourage them! Don't watch it! 'Why don't you turn off your television set and go and do something less boring instead?'

'The revolution will not be televised'.

I did enjoy Strictly Come Dancing though.

I feel better now, I'm going for a little lie down.

Me too. Never watch that stuff - can't stand it. The only exception - under a certain degree of sufferance - is Strictly Come Dancing which Mrs sassysax likes, and reminds me of my parents who were old-time dancers. I preferred the original Come Dancing though - no celebrity stuff in those days! Peggy Spencer's formation team from Penge were a highlight, as I recall....

i hate these programmes and the squeeky mr norton..i for one wont watch any of it..
come dancing was awful too, my wife loved it..i even had a friend in the band and still couldn't watch it..and as for that one on ice..
ant and dec will have to answer come the revolution..

Don't you think that a continuous stream of aweful TV actually assists us vaguely creative folks in that my motivation to lounge in front of the box is considerably lower than it used ot be so I end up drawing, writing and playing sax. There's my silver lining to this otherwise stupefyingly medicre situation.

Thank goodness I am too old to watch TV. I feel that I don't fall into the target audience anymore (over 50). Also I think that I am the wrong gender. I don't mean to offend anyone but I do think that television programmes are produced with a female audience in mind. Yes there are men who enjoy soaps and big brother type stuff but I think that the programme makers would regard that as a bonus. If you don't agree have a look at the adverts in between the shows. A high percentage is for make up, perfume, hair colour etc etc.

Sorry old boys we have to go back to what grandad did....listen to the radio. I love my DAB

Now there's an idea Paul. Pete could even go on as himself.

I remember a couple of years ago hearing Wreckless Eric say that if his conspicuous lack of success continued, he could make more money as a Wreckless Eric tribute act.

I'm with semiquaver, DAB's rool 🙂

Yes.

Frank, I really think you should stop being a mealy-mouthed person who minces their words and get straight to the point on this one. Thank you.
