Hi,
I'm 32 years old, a passion for jazz and by the sax!
Since I don't have any music background I wonder if is not to late for
beginning to learn to play the sax. Its possible without any teacher, just with the horn an with books?

Thanks,
CDias

I'm 32 too and just started into Ska and Reggae, for me it's a personal journey for everyone else( the hound, baby and wife) it's HELL 😉 O'neills Jazz Method for Sax is a good start 🙂

39, started in May, having a brilliant time!

I do have a teacher and he's been a huge help. I highly recommend having one.

Look at it this way; you now *can't* start any younger! 😉

Old dog/new tricks vs never too old to learn, definitely the latter! Although I jave always been 'musical', I didn't start blowing down things until I was 48, 3 years ago, so although the musicality was (questionably) in me I still had to learn a whole new load of techniques, and I love it.

So, for sure, do it! Also, you've come to the right place to ask the most basic questions without fear of ridicule.

All the best.

Cheers, Bob

Teenagers!
32, i took tenor up a month before the seventieth birthday, first reed instrument and six months down the line can put together a few blues and ballad solos. By the time you reach my age you'll have thirty-eight years experience and I've still got to be tooting at 108 to keep up with you.
Get a tenor and ENJOY LIFE.

As the others have said it's not too late at all. I'm 42 and have been playing since February. I didn't have any musical ability at all couldn't read a note. So in the last 7 months I've gone from nothing to being able to read music and play an instrument - it's amazing what you can do if you are interested and work hard.

You should get a teacher although having said that I (still) haven't managed to get one so I'm totally self taught which suits me for now as I have no aspirations to play in a band or anything.

I think it is harder to motivate yourself and know you are doing it properly if you don't have lessons, but I use a few really good books and some CD's and it's ok for now. It is possible to do but I think most people would agree it's not ideal.

Hope not... I'm 36 and just started electric bass and Italian. Come stai? - molto bene!

I like learning - why would age matter? Generally it comes down to amount of time for me... so my practising time is gold.

Ciao,

Simon
