I use BSS on alto; for tenor Gonzalez have been my go to for years. The BSS black are way too dark for me on tenor, next option so far as been Rigotti Gold, but they're a littler harder in tenor than alto and I've not managed to get the strength right.I thought you played Boston sax shop reeds, I tried Gonzalez Jazz reeds about 30 years ago they were good but I struggled to find a regular supply back then so stopped using them.
It's funny, on alto, BSS are softer than Gonzalez, and on tenor it's the other way round!
Following on from @sax panther's post above, I've order a Forestone black bamboo; see how it fares. At £18 it's about the same as a box of Gonzalez Jazz (well a fraction more); so would need to last a good three months or so to be viable from a spend perspective.
