Well the new strap was a good buy, sax.co.uk reckon it could reduce the weight by 50% and I'm inclined to agree with them. Getting used to the strength 2 reeds now, although I appear to be in the process of killing my bottom lip!

Also, I've noticed that I'm making little dents / marks in the mouthpiece from my upper teeth. Does this mean I'm putting too much pressure there? Bottom lip actually feels fine, but it gradually get more sore / weak after I've been playing a while.

I'm still really enjoying it, in fact I've noticed more determination to move forward. It's quite frustrating when you're determined to get one of the tunes right, and move onto the next one when you're mouth gives up!

Hi Emma You sound like your having a ball!
Its quit amusing when towards the end of a hard blown gig, your lip just fails... no warning... just wham!...dribble everywhere!
Never mind... one day I'll actually practice for long enough.
Keep up the hard work 😉

Hi Emma. Why not go back to the softer reed if it lets you play for longer periods of time without pain? That's what I would do. Try and avoid biting the mouthpiece. Let the reed blow free from that kind of pressure and strive for the nicest sound for the least effort.

I like a padded neck strap on my tenor as well.

Have fun.

I think it's inevitable you'll make teethmarks on your mouthpiece, but biting down is best avoided - maybe try some mouthpiece patches? Sounds like you're having fun Emma!

Taz, the lip-going phenomenon - why does it always happen when you're going for the big finish? And it's often accompanied by a dose of reed-choke too. Drat.
