Spyro Gyra - Starburst

Michael Brecker is one of my top sax players, Not because of his tone/technique but because he played with many of my other favourite musicians including Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Jaco Pastorius and Pat Metheny. I didn't know that he played in Spyro Gyra so thanks for this!
My favourite Michael Brecker video is (still)

Listening to my old record collection .What a great composition and beautiful solo by Michael Brecker!

Morning Dance was one of the coolest albums when it came out. It really turned my head. Same year of release as Weather report 's 8.30. I thought music was just like that. I had no idea at the time how special the albums and the musicians were. Then Randy Crawford appeared with The Crusaders and Street Life. Man I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

And then Mezzoforte came along.

I remember buying that album on cassette tape when I was 12 years old - I didn't realize it was Mike Brecker until your posting - what a class player - I had the privilege of seeing Mike play here in NZ a couple of years before he passed away. Check out the Brecker Brothers first album with Mike trading solos with Dave Sanborn on "Rocks"or Michael Franks' "Sleeping Gypsy" album, there is also an album by Everything But The Girl where he plays a great solo also Kirk Whalum and Stan Getz on the same record.
Thanks for posting the track brought back memories.

I think it's just this one time guest performance. But I love the fact that a sax player's band would invite other great sax player to perform on a record.

Brecker was really prolific as a session musician. The list of albums he guested on is very long indeed.

I'm a big fan of Michael Brecker. He's my all-time favourite saxophonist.

And the amazing thing is that there's absolutely nothing "holding him up" e.g. a backing band, rhythm section or assorted auto-tuner tricks etc. Nope, it's just Michael Brecker and a microphone playing a capella.

Here's another amazing recording of Brecker playing unaccompanied on stage, without any kind of safety-net:-
