Saxophones Selmer Mk VI tenor

there is an almost brand new 86xxx tenor in a store in Tokyo for sale.... only US$30K 😱
(but a lot more for around 7-8K)
between 4 or 5 stores i went to, there must have been 30 mark6's for sale

(everyone needs an excuse to visit tokyo 😀 )

There's a mk6 tenor in SAXOPHONEHEAVEN at Oxford for £3500.00,it's a 1966 horn in all original condition with Crocodile case and they say it look's like no 1 has ever played it,looks brand new.

Thanks guys. :thankyou:

No chance I'll be off to Japan though. As for the brand new one - why would anyone own a mk VI and never play it! Still may be worth a look though I stress I have no money to buy one this year or mrs hd would kill me - eventually! >:)

I,ve heard the story's of how some people have died and there family have cleared the house out to find brand new mk6's hidden away for years in the loft, dont no if this is 1 of them.Must be nice though to find a 1 in ya loft and bingo,ye ha.

Just spoke to Woodwind Exchange. They have 12 ranging from £3,500 to £4,800

Bit pricey! Don't they know there's a recession on! :w00t:

That's dealers for you. The price is way higher than you might pay on craiglist, but there is a selection - quite important when buying a MKVI as there are some mediocre ones around. You are paying for the luxury of them holding these in stock, insuring them, etc...

But I agree, very pricey.

I guess. Also spoke to SAXOPHONEHEAVEN about the mint original one though its price seems to now be £3,995 but it's a commission sale and the guy wants cash 'as cash'. Seems a genuine horn that plays well but has not been played 'in anger'. A one of a kind.

Still, could only go for one now if I sold the 66RUL and I'm not keen to do that right now despite Griff's interest.

Maybe I should just wait until I am ready to buy one though it would be nice to try as many out as I can before I buy.

If you get to Bradford you will be spoilt for choice that's for sure. That's the place to go for a mk6 and all the top uk player's such as Pine,Sheppard,King,Weller etc go to.You just need to hold up a bank now!!!!

Don't want to be too much of a killjoy, but do you really think that it will be significantly better than the Mauriat? Fun to try I suppose, but in the final anaylysis I would bet that even a trained ear wouldn't be able to tell much difference. If you're determined though, I'll give you £200 for the 66RUL - just to help you out, you understand.

For me my 66RUL is better than any MK6 i owned or tryed but that's me and my thought's.I been round the Selmer block many time's and the Mauriat wipe's the floor with them.

For what it's worth I know a bloke who bought a MKVI in 1959 when he was an art student. He went on to become an art teacher.
After trying to play saxophone for a few months he gave up.

He still haves this instrument and resuses to sell it.

What a shame that this horn has never been played.

Still not had the time to look at any Mk VIs and I have to say I'm loving the sound of the 66RUL more and more as I get better at playing it.

For sure I will not be selling this one and I am now doubting the sanity in looking for a Mk VI unless I can find a stellar one!

for what its worth, I have a few freinds that have mark 6's but prefer playing their mauriats

A customer of mine bought a 66 RUL last month and has not played his 6 since - I wont mention any names but he is a pro player who tours regularly.

I did ask you not to mention me, Griff.

BTW:-Can anyone explain to me why all the Mauriats and Bauhaus Walsteins are made of parts from the Hanson Parts Catalogue? 😀

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
