Mouthpieces Rovner Deep- V tenor mpc

Anybody playing a Rovner Deep-V tenor mpc on a The Martin Tenor?

I'm looking for a new mouthpiece and maybe a Rovner V-deep 40D or a Lawton BB can be an alternative. Im now playing Berg Larsen stainless from late 70's (105-115, 0/1 baffle and M facings) and before that I played Dukoff D7, D8 or X7. I've alternate between Dukoffs and Larsens since the 70's. So I thought it's time for a new mpc. I'm playing Blues, R&B and Rock 'n' Roll.

I bought a Rovner Deep-V40 D (high baffle) tenor, #8. A nice mouthpiece. Every mouthpiece is hand tweaked, hand polished, etc. It comes with a Rovner EVO-5 ligature, cap and a mouthpiece robe.

The intonation is good, high notes & altissimo comes out well, low notes are also fine and the bite plate is very comfortable designed (I use double trp BG mpc patch). The tone is powerful. Beside 'The Martin' saxes I also tried the mouthpiece on some other of my 'vintage' horns and it's no problem. Seems to be a flexible mpc. I'm also trying to get my old lig, BG FL metal, to fit on the Rovner.

I'm playing LaVoz reeds and I used MH or H on Dukoffs and Larsens. I think LaVoz M or a slighty downfiled MH is best for me on the Rovner. The low tones comes out better. Vandoren V16 3-3? is also fine but the bottom tones are not that good compared to LaVoz.

This mouthpiece works fine with The Martin tenor. A powerful mpc for a small hornsection or if you are a single saxplayer in a band.

I'm just fine, thank you. I'm thriving with The Rock & Roll Saxophone!!

But it's quite lonely. We are not that many who are into Rocksax here in Sweden. I often play the song 'Lonely (As A Man Can Be)' J.T. Brown (Elmore James)

I'm planning a new Rocksax workshop in november: 'Blues Sax Workout in A and E'. Beside that I just now writing a newsletter to send out to honkers over here. This evening I'm going to call David 'Woody' Woodford and ask him about a saxsolo. Must keep up the interest for Rocksax!!!!

I'm enjoying myself. Long tone exercises everery day. No charts, reading, note stand, thinking ... just pure animal saxophone playing. I'm trying to come back in the shape as I was in 10-15 years ago.

The #8 will serve you well. If you can locate and try an old Winslow lig, SAXXAS or the new Rovner mass-loaded lig you might like them as well. And just as an experiment you might try a Rico Plasticover baritone sax reed to get a little different tone. Buy at least six to try since the consistency varies.

I'm glad you like the music. I got your 'Billboards Top 40 hits...' (Thank you very much) the other year and I use the list frequently. Very useful. I'm very week for the early R&B saxplayers. The heritage of Rock & Roll!!

The EVO-5 lig is fine but I would like to try some other ligature as well. Bari reeds sounds interesting. I'll try that.

"pure animal saxophone playing" I love this phrase!
For a decent ligature for playing rock & roll (or basically play big and loud) I've found the Francois Louis works really well to open things up and assist altissimo (and general screaming).
"'Blues Sax Workout in A and E'" bloody guitarists, how come they call the shots when it comes to which key all the songs are in? Fat45 are built round a piano so we get loads of numbers in concert F, G and (best of all) Ab- the last one's superb for tenor & is now officially my favourite key solo in.

PS- my top rock & roll tenor mouthpieces at the moment- Ponzol 2M or Runyon Smoothbore (gigged one of these a couple of weeks ago... great response, screams like a banshee and subtones like Ben Webster... well, almost)

The keys in A and E!?!? I think it's better to get used to them. The guitar players are often the persons who runs the bands and holds the money!! I agree, Ab is great for the tenor.

I'm blowin' my sax every day. Pulse; 120 bpm when I blow longtone excersises with note bending. Good training!?

I'll try a Francois Louis lig. I think they have it here in Sweden.
