Public Liability Insurance

I'm sure this has probably been asked before, but does anyone know a cheap provider of Public Liability Insurance?

We are doing a charity gig and the venue insists on £2 million cover.

Probably a good idea anyway, given the number of gigs we have this year.

I know the MU provide it for £10 million with membership, but hoping to get it for less than £100 if possible.

Thanks.

There are hundreds of specialist insurance companies on the web that'll insurance you while performing for less than £35 if you don't need equipment and instrument cover. I'm reluctant to name any though. I still think the MU is the best way as they offer far more than just insurance!

Hi Col,

Our business (nowt to do with music!) is insured through simplybusiness.co.uk (absolutely no personal interest here)- they provided the best quote in terms of cover and cost. I see that they do cover for musicians so might be worth getting a quote from them.

Cheers,
Amanda

I would also recommend the MU, don't join purely for the PL cover though, there are plenty of other benefits.

Thank you for all your help so far.

I've learnt a lot in the last 24 hours, checked out the MU route but unfortunately it only covers the individual not the band (according to their provider), others have quoted over £200 but found one for £75 which seems reasonable.

Looking back over past threads it shows just how much this insurance has increased over the years, in line with venues insisting on it I guess.

Won't bore you with the details, but I've had to deal with this for nearly 20 years for one reason or another. The numbe rof providers of PLI had dropped dramatically in recent years and this has affected costs....

Could your group join Making Music (www.makingmusic.org.uk) as a performing group? You could then sign-up for their PLI cover, which is pretty reasonably priced. Both of my choirs are members for precisely this reason.
