Paint and cleanup / detail the edges with hard cotton swabs. Sounds easy……

Yeah tha guy Matt makes it look easy.
Anyone remember your first experience cooking bacon crispy while still in the frying pan !

That brace needs some patina….
Can-tina ? It’s out of stock everywhere. Lots of Witches brew available at the moment. My concern using these products is unknown side effects. One disclaimer states “See your tech about using this product to improve your emotional wellbeing. Side effects may include turning you green or death. This product not recommended for Selmer MK VI S,A.T,B treatment. Your results may vary”.

Note that many times I’ve mentioned “don’t straighten things until you fully understand why they are bent”.
Small stuff…. Things I learned early on in repair. Bent action (keywork) is from one of two reasons. An adjustment or damage. Go slow, observe. Study the relationships between parts that make systems interact and work.
It totally sucks straightening a part only to discover it was correct before you “fixed it”.

This picture below (from post 1,104)was more than just checking the tenon / reciever fit between the 1930 Martin Typewriter crook and the 1934 Imperial neck. I was also viewing the position of the neck key octave halo and octave lever.

Yes the body octave lever was bent.
No I didn’t straighten it out. Why ? Ok, you tell me where I should bend / correct the fit to ???? Don’t be a bending monkey !

I also noticed the brace was very thin in the area close to the tenon/ reciever area.
I left extra material on. Gives a little latitude for making needed adjustments later on.

Still I’ve started reviewing issues now for adjustments later.

FWIW the skewed or off center position of the crook support appears to have no reason.

Fabrication of the missing part can be viewed here.

What's happened here? Have you completely delaquered it to change the colour? I don't know what process I'm looking at here? I know,.... I'm a little ignorant in these things 🤔🤷😂😉 or are they all different horns and I'm not looking at it properly? 👀
Hello @teen37 it’s been awhile since I’ve looked at post #9 🤓
The first is a before and after cleaning / service picture of the same tenor in lacquered brass. No lacquer removed although it was fully re-engraved.
The second is a before and after cleaning & full polish service on silver plated tenor.
No Pork Pie here 😉

Hey 😉 well I have to say, you've done an amazing job 👍👌 can you change the colour of the lacquer at all say, to lighten it? Is it possible?

Thanks for the compliment.
The only way to change the color is to strip it. Then reapply with a different color tint. It is possible to do, but difficult to find a shop that will.

I did see a YouTube video where someone delaquered just parts of the main body, not any of the action just to give it a more aged look and feel, not sure I'm brave enough to do that personally 🤔😳

@Stephen Howard @mark_addy I’ve stepped up and bought a collet set. Actually two. Both bottom rungs.
The MT3 ER-32 kit covers 3-2mm to 20-19mm / .079 to .787.
The ER-16 covers 0,79 to 9.53mm / .032 to .375

The MT3 ER-16 holder $13 arrives in next few days. No spanner.
The ER-16, 12 piece assortment below was a painful $12. Kit total $25. DIY case was dirt cheap 🤪
Cute little buggers.

The MT3 ER-32 kit was expensive @ $27. Probably due to the spanner, case, and 3 more collets 🤔 Although double the metal mass could be a factor too 🤣.

Both holders are hollow. ER32 drawbar thread M12-1.75 D.I.N. I hope the ER16 is same as no information was available. A simple distance spacer for length offset and one bar should do.
The 5C kit will keep until later or be bundled with a new lathe 😉

Funny thing, I don’t recall my watch lathe having collets larger than .125 / 3.5mm. I’ve never had a 5C in hand. These 32’s seem massive 🤣. Small compared to the 20’ aerospace lathe’s I’ve seen.
