I've tried and tested many over the years.
I've had my new PPT Resin for about 10 days now.
It's Amy Zing. It really is. It just seems to do whatever I want it to do.
It did take a few days to find my best reed/mouthpiece suitable combination.
Watch out I bought a cheap Chinese take-a-way tenor € 459 as a back up horn last Friday.

You're quite right - Of course I am as mad as a box of frogs. Not only that I'll be celebrrating my 72'nd birthday in a few weeks
Funny thing is - I get paid for my "mad as a box of frogs" saxophonic adventures.
Not only that I have to pay tax for being as mad as a box of frogs.

I'm not the most grammatically correct person but I can blame some of it on predictive text. I enjoy your posts and get plenty of good info and plenty of chuckles. The term "as mad as a box of frogs" is very much a friendly term.

Until a few minutes ago, I was wondering who this Amy Zing was.
I didn't run to YouTube to see if she could play, or if she was a top model Pete was dating, or a perhaps Democratic candidate in the 2020 U.S. election.

Like many saxophonists, I own several mouthpieces. Since I started a short time ago, that probably is odd, maybe unwise even, but I do try to play them all over about a two-week period. I can certainly conceive of the possibility -- getting to the actual topic of this post -- that mouthpieces and reeds are a part of the equation. However, I'd also bet that most players who've mastered overtones, or any facet of playing, will be able to do a decent job on any combo.

As the OP on this, I have also added progress reports and things are moving along in an acceptable time frame. There have been a ton of really interesting insights from all of you here. I would refer you back to the first video I posted where the teacher demonstrates his mastery of overtones. On one of them, he missed it the first time. He has a whole series of videos, and of course, there's no lack of saxophone how-to videos on YouTube.

@spike I'm surprised, I tried the PPT and it does get the third partial (second octave) more easily. I checked to see if this was a "placebo effect" by trying other mouthpieces, and it does seem to be the case. However, overtones aren't the only thing I do in a day's session. We'll see how things work out when I hit the fourth partial.

Edit/correction: the Syos 3D-printed piece produces the same result.

It's already kind of a fun challenge to pass between the tonic and the first two, and yes I do it with a "hooo" or "vooo" or "fooo" sound.
I can hear the second octave in there, but the always settles on the fifth or the first octave. I hear the other wanting to come out.
The reason I am working on this is in the hopes of being able to play a few of the altissimo notes, in particular G and G#. The A is easier to hit, and the G# is closer to coming out. (I'm on alto.) That G is killing me. I was able to hit it on some mouthpiece+reeds combos and not others.

G6 is now part of my standard vocabulary when I play, ie dont feel I have to concentrate hard to get it out, and because I play it regularly its also beginning to sound nice 🙂 🙂 ... has been a long road - startet one year ago attacking the high G ... has done a lot of OT exercies ... can now master 1-3rd partials without problems (even though D and D# on some days can be troublesome), and im currently struggling with the 4th partials of Bb and H ... I have been here for 3-4 months without real progress, so probably need to change strategy - but just wanted to say, that not beeing able to hit the 4th partial, does not prevent me from being able to exploit the high G (and G# + A for that matter) 🙂

Is G6 what we would normally call G3, that is, the 3rd G up from the bottom?

Yeah, but that's saxophone specific. If you look an most tuners, pianos etc. G6 is legit

Whatever G6 is, it makes a bit of difference depending on which sax you’re talking about.
