Olds tenor sax (made by Martin) rebuild

Hi all,

Rhys AKA rhysonsax has given me his Olds Super Tenor sax to re pad de dent and get back into shape.

How did the sax get in that state?

It s a bit of a job but I love a challenge!

as to how it got in the state it is now I'm not sure

Wow, that's one poorly puppy. Looks like it was run over.

I have read that the Martin saxes have an inbuilt design error regarding the tone holes which were always soldered on. The composite they used to bond them reacts with the brass (and probably saliva) and in time corrodes. Apparently.

Great pictures, looking forward to seeing the progress.

Griff - Nice job and fine pics. That horn was really beaten up! I'm a "Martin- player" and the Martin made saxes I have there is a difference in quality between "real Martins" and Martin-stencils/ -secondline.
