I thought for sure I was going to win, but now I see a couple of Adolphe Sax horns and I don't think so anymore. 😉

In any event, my original contestant to this question, is my HP, Evette & Schaeffer bari from 1886, with serial #75xx

The second contestant I'm not 100% sure about its age. It is a LP Boosey & Co alto keyed from low B to F. After much frustrating research, 2 possible years of manufacturering came up: either 1878 (if the horn follow brass wind serial # charts), or 1914 (if it followed the charts of woodwinds).

Both of these babies are in remarkable shape, and both play beautifully. I use them when I do educational/playing workshops on saxophone history.

The size difference between the C and Bb sopranos seems a lot less than the difference between my C and Bb sopranos. Are they both low pitch?

I also see they both have the long detachable neck. I remember when you showed us one of these earlier. What's the highest note they're keyed for?

My much later (mid 1920s) C and Bb have very different sounds. The Bb is a harsher and much louder sound, the C is much lighter and sweeter. How do these very old ones sound?

Mes harmonicas en do et si bémol, bien plus récents (milieu des années 1920), ont des sonorités très différentes. Le si bémol a un son plus rauque et beaucoup plus fort, tandis que le do a un son beaucoup plus doux et léger. Comment sonnent ces harmonicas très anciens ?

Oui, mais n'oubliez pas ceci : le si bémol soprano était volontairement plus court et n'avait pas de clés de paume.

In fact, the Bb soprano should be not too shorter, the "probleme" was not the C soprano but it's on Bb after it's AIS

The two horns are sweeter and very lighter, nearly conn f mezzo soprano in style of sound.

Le saxophone soprano en si bémol n'a pas de bocal amovible, mais j'ai une autre confirmation qu'il s'agissait d'un prototype.

The "pads" are strange not same form, it was not totally perfect or strange form

I don’t think I own it anymore but I had what was probably a mid 19th Century Triebert bassoon which I donated to the Hornimann museum. I can’t see it catalogued though. Ages of Triebert bassoons can be difficult to measure. Anyway off topic as this is about saxophones. Like others 1920s Conn and 1930s Kohlert for me

I have several from the 1920s but my oldest are a L&H tenor that the serial number indicates it was made by Buescher in 1917 and a 1919 Martin C mel. The L&H does not seal well using modern pads so it stays in it case. The Martin plays okay but not as well as my 1925 Holton so it is mostly just for display.
