@prelude To do embouchure exercises I think it's important to .....
  • be relaxed and positive thoughts about embouchure - and other exercises.
  • have good playing position; shoulder broad between your legs, lower the shoulders, hip forward, belly in, chest/breast out, head high and look straight forward.
  • have good breathing technique; use your diaphragm and open up your chest. Don't move up the tone!
  • be concentrate/focused; learn the differnt exercises so you don't have to read or look at the sheet paper. "Feel-in" the tempo (I do all embouchure exercises at 60 bpm), even and steady at the same pitch
  • "visualize"; you don't know what tones that comes out from your sax but to think about the nice and good tone helps up.
  • good environment; a nice spot/room.
I think this is the first step before you do long tones! I almost forgot, the basic exercises I do I have learned from other players. Not face to to face lessons. A letter, phone call, web site ...is a lesson.
