Went down to Hastings yesterday and back today

Rubby freezing 😡 the wind was a nightmare, the speedometer stopped working, to cold to look into it , don't know if it's the cable or the clock, don't think I am going to do anymore out of towns till the spring

I am just getting to old for winter biking 🙁

Chilly on the bike at this time of year, isn't it? I usually go for about three layers of clothing, and heated grips as well.

Hey, the speedo is probably just the cable. They go every 20,000 miles or so on CB500s. Usually snaps at the top end. Five minute job to replace. If not, the other thing is the speedo drive gear, on the left of the front wheel as you look down sat on the bike. It's a toothed plastic gear, and eventualy wears out. They only cost 14 quid. This job takes all of ten minutes. If it turns out that the clock itself is knackered (very, very unlikely) I think I've got a spare one lurking in the garage somewhere. If you can wait until 6 Jan you can even pop up to my office and I'll sort it for you and show you what to do in future.

So, don't be too dispondent. Have a hot mince pie and a glass of Scotch, and dream of balmy summer days, flicking through the bends of the Sussex roads on your way to dip your heels in the sea.

I have hot grips and muffs so hands were ok just the wind was the worst of it and was pretty blind on the way down with the Sun so low

Yeh, it's not very often much fun on 2 wheels this time of year. Around this area, the Highways people add to the challenges by using a foul mixture of salt and molasses (yes, honest - sugar!) for keeping the roads clear of ice. This apparently reduces the damage done to manhole covers etc by salt action, but it forms a slick on the road with the adhesive properties of KY jelly (whatever that is..) and makes roundabouts particularly interesting on 2 wheels

Hah hah. I think it's something due to being born and raised in the frozen North. Even a grotty Surrey summer feels positively mediterranean compared to the grimness of a Teesside summer. 😛

i lived in Spain and France for over 15 years and came back three years ago, too bloody cold here, i'm looking to move again within the next year. Thought my head was going to fall off taking the dogs for a walk the other day. :cry:
