... and that set me thinking that I have a long lost recording of me playing Redemption Song on the Alto. Dusted it off, and you know what, it's actually not that embarrassing :) (your opinion may differ!)

"How I learned to stop worrying and love the banjo" - The Prequel.

Many years ago I found this 10" album in a disregarded rack in a record shop in Cape Town. I see it's now worth something! http://www.ebay.com/itm/130786344545

And here it is on youtube - astonishingly good sound quality. Some amazing playing on this.

Liner notes here: http://media.smithsonianfolkways.org/liner_notes/smithsonian_folkways/SFW40018.pdf

from the liner notes:
I'll admit I'm in a favoured position. In my home everybody can be working to beat the band, and I'm lying on the bed, plunking away at the banjo. The kids say "papa's practising".

Hence: Goofing-Off Suite

Back playing with Tuesday night jazz group after summer break ...
Tonight we played this tune for the first time. Went pretty well for a first bash at it, and great fun.

But Diana Krall makes it her own...

Nothing easy and softly lulling to sleep here! This is a talk / lesson / riff / crazy ride bringing together 12-tone music, jazz, maths, reflections on creativity and copyright all delivered at breakneck speed by an amazingly articulate, witty and engaging young woman.

Oh, and the last six minutes is a tour-de-force.
