Mouthpieces Mouthpiece patches (can't kick the habbit!)

I tried patches a long time ago and found them really comfortable until I overstepped the mark by buying thicker ones. (Yuk!)
Back to the thin ones but....
Trouble was most patches usually didn't stick very well. Considering this and the small change in sound that occured when using them , I stopped buying them.
After this, I went for years without using them but gradually all my bite plates were starting to get ridges from my teeth. I wanted to preserve the m/p as best as possible and I always remembered the comfort of using a patch.

So I'm back on them.... but my prayers seem to have been answered. ULTRA STICKY, ULTRA COMFORTABLE.

I like the sound of those, I use the thicker black ones, except on soprano - I use the thin clear ones. Although I don't exert much pressure with my teeth, I still prefer the feel of a patch.

I think my ATM duties are taking me in that direction, and I may be going to Myatt's to try out one or two soprano mpc's, I may get some. The thinner, clear ones make a definite improvement on the soprano mouthpiece I am currently using (the trusty Yamaha 4c); I wonder if they'll make alto and tenor mpc's as comfortable as using the thicker black patches, and if they'll allow me to 'feel' the mpc any better.

One thing I've noticed about the thick ones is that if you take them off your mpc, say to clean off the crud build-up from the mpc itself, they can be stuck back and they stay secure. I believe many advances have been made in the technology of adhesives. Maybe soon they will develop a Superglue that actually sticks what you want it to - certain types of plastic, it just doesn't want to know, grumble moan whinge gripe.

I never used to use patches.

Then I got a cheap mouthpiece which needed one it was so soft. So I bought a pack of thin black ones.

Ended up being bored and putting them on every one of my mouthpieces and now I haven't taken them off because they feel much nicer and even though I wasn't scratching or denting, you fault the protection.

I threw out the empty packet, and just couldn't find these things anywhere (or even remember what they were called).

Talking of Myatt's, in Hitchin, they have a Grand Sale starting tomorrow - not much to write home about on the sax front, but they seem to be knocking out some cheap mouthpieces and reeds.
