Microphones microphones again

Ok, here is a short clip with my 3 mics.

Avantone CV12 tube mic (Chinese AKG C12) bought this very cheap (normal price is about €600)
Røde NTR
Nohype LRM2 Lundahl

I think you could make good recordings with all 3 if you spend the time to adjust gain properly 🙂

Cheers, Guenne

Have you used EQ on any of them?
What's your recording chain?

Hi,
mics to Universal Audio Apollo Twin Interface, to Mac (Studio One).
No EQ on the saxophone bus, but a mastering plugin with (just a bit) of EQ, but settings are the same with all 3, except that I turned the fader up a bit on the LRM, as I set gain a bit too low compared to the others (but just right as it turned out).

If i had to choose at a push it would be take no'1 'Avantone'
The CV12 is indeed an interesting Mic, you can adjust mic characteristics from omnidirectional to cardioid to figure of 8.

Cheers, Guenne

How well the Triton Audio preamp work?
I have some Triton Audio devices... and I'm pretty satisfied.
The customer care is great!

I generally like high-end ribbon microphones, but they are a double-edged sword. I would not recommend a ribbon microphone as a first microphone. It's something it takes time to learn and to understand.

I actually like it a lot. A very versatile tool: Still to explore its full possibilities with other mics than the ribbon.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
