Loose tubes on the BBC

Listening to jazz line up and nearly turned it off after having to sit through georgie fame but then joy of joys they played Discovering Metal by Loose Tubes from their live album Dancing on frith street recorded in 1990 at Ronnies.

I have yet to buy Dancing on Frith Street but I do have three of their other releases and they are a must.

Got the Loose Tubes CD and have been enjoying it. That brings back a time when I used to see a lot more live jazz. I remember seeing them in an old train station in Bath and having a great time - must have been about 1985.

My old sax teacher (Ken Stubbs) is playing on the Loose Tubes CD. He had to emigrate to Australia to get away from hearing my sax playing every week.

And Georgie Fame is one of my favourites - I've seen him live about five times and he often has some top jazz players in his band. Still didn't very much for me I'm afraid. Quite pleasant but I couldn't listen to a whole album of it.

Very envious that you got to see Loose Tubes though. I remember seeing them on the TV in the 80s but never got to see them live.
It is a shame the rest of the albums are no longer available. Maybe someday they will be released

Went to a Georgie Fame gig recently, what a waste of time. Late start, long interval, early finish, interspersed with a lot of talk and a bit of playing.Very disappointing.

Rather than starting a new thread on Loose Tubes ...

I have just bought their latest CD "Arriving" which features some more recordings from Ronnie's in 1990 plus a few tracks recorded by the reformed band.

"Arriving" by Chris Batchelor is such a great and simple tune that I would like to play it. I am surprised that I can't find a lead sheet or anything online. I have started (very slowly) to try to transcribe the theme and chords, but does anyone have something that could help me ?

Sorry Mamos ; given the choice, I would take Georgie. I once had the misfortune to see loose tubes. Man they were awful. Each to their own though. ade
