As a player Kenny is doing well for himself. That I do admire. The need to make money has a HUGE bearing on the development of music. Any player who is able to carve themselves a living deserves respect it is a tough old world.

I do admire PM as a player, I just can't get into his universe. Just because he's 'good' doesn't necessarily mean I should. Some might say his attitude towards Louis and KG's 'desecration' of Satchmo's music is, well, a little precious, although I can understand it, to a degree. But hey, lighten up man. Part of Louis's, or anyone's 'art' may be achieved through some kind of suffering, what comes after is irrelevant to the continuing purity or beauty of his music. In current-day ad-speak "He went out there so you don't have to". Is anyone who plays a less than artistically valid and intense version of }insert title of important or beautiful tune here{ crapping on the grave of }insert name or artist here{. These people opened the doors for us, they didn't dictate what we should do once we passed through, they didn't even care if we did pass through.

The main reason i thin KG is diarrhea is the way he can take a good tune and rip the soul out of it then serve it up like a Bernard Matthews turkey roast..
I've always said he knows his audience and i say good luck to the guy..
anyone who actually likes this stuff ought to listen to some real music before you get a perm a fake tan and start wearing KG novelty underwear..

sorry to be blunt, but sometimes the blood dose boil over..

once you tasted the real thing, Kenny just wont cut it..

don't know how someone could have posted something about jealousy.. come on we live in the real world we all have our lives and know where were at.. i would love a piece of his pie.. i still would hate the music..pure diarrhea

I'm no great fan of Kenny G, and bear in mind I'm partially posting this just in the spirit of devils advocat (unless that's some sort of Christmas drink..?)- But I've heard some great players rip the soul out of tunes on a regular basis. One of my all time most loathed saxophone solos was by Branford Marsalis (a great player, without doubt)- its on a CD of him a John Lee Hooker. Hooker starts a funerial paced blues- absolutely stripped down and as soulful as he ever gets- In comes the sax, 100 MPH bebop solo over the top of it. Boy, did he (a) miss the point of that piece (I don't think shouting Look at Me Look how Clever I'm being! is exactly the right response to a slow delta blues!!) and (b) rip the soul out of it... You'd have to hear this- technically superb but one of the worst bits of playing in context I've ever come across.
Ahem... I've actually surprised myself quite how vitriolic that rant came out. I apologise for that perosnal explosion there.... in the words of one of my old band mates on being told that the song our guitarist had writen had 36 chords in it... "how many chords do you actually need to say what you've got to say?"...

i keep this album(which someone bought as a gift) to remind me how bad things can get..

First time I saw him was live on tv, and sunded quite good, doin some quite interesting stuff (not quite far out, but a good mainstream attempt), and it seemed he was ok.

But then I bought his record. :x cheesy, middle of the road pap, as I've said before, brought out so my mum can have something for her birthday other than flowers or perfume but that still stinks.

Theres a massive gulf between what he could be like if only he wasnt under obligation (or who knows maybe he prefers the cheese) and what's on his records.

Not quite a kenny G though - he loves the cheese more than I love a good stilton.
