I bought a saxophone about a year and a half ago. And it's great. I shoved into the conservatory because my wife and daughters don't like the loud noise. It is just so much fun, I wish I had bought one 40 years ago.

Yep, mid life crisis. Write a novel, learn a language and learn a musical instrument. I had tried a penny whistle but two octaves and one key - not very versatile.

Thanks everybody. My daughters have decided I should get a dog when I retire. I've told them I don't want the responsibility of looking after a pet. A pet chilli plant is enough.

I also had to move away from the main rooms and elected to use my basement. Last winter I renovated it and now I have a perfect music room just to myself!

Welcome @Old Tom I bought my first sax as a retirement project still playing 6 years on. Have fond memories of auld reekie, my daughter studied there for 4 years.

No - I've started going to a musician's group that meets the first Sunday of each month. It's good fun. I also enquired about an orchestra I found on a link on this site, but they've just taken on a saxophonist. :-(

As to joining a band - yep I'd be up for that - if they were to think I'm good enough.
