hi all... repair question

🙂 hello I'm new to your forum and i will be after plenty of advice in the coming weeks 😛

I've been playing for about 20 yrs (since i was 8)...... i'm not as good as i should be mind! :whistle: only thing is i know next to nothing about saxophones!

first question.......... the post at the top of my sax, the one that holds the longest rod(?) has snapped off, is it an expensive kind of repair, and is it worth it?
BUFFET EVETTE... it was very cheap 2nd hand gets lots of hard use gigging i'm presuming it would be easier to just get a new one. but its seen a lot of gigs with me, and i'm quite attached!!

Not too expensive as it only has one key on it (E or F# I think depending on model). It is definitely worth it as the saxophone won't work without it.

Unless you stuff something in the hole and never play that note!

Thats pretty much what i've done at my last two gigs, duct tape help for half an hour!! then to much bouncing about and the whole thing fell apart!

i had a sax damaged at a gig once, the top Ekey came away.. had to push a cork in the hole..it wont cost much at all to repair.. it may be a good idea to get the tech to check over the horn for any other leaks..

i dropped me sax's in to a fella today he found loads of leaks in both he said it was a wonder i could get a note out of them at all!

i'll remember the cork trick for the future 😉

perhaps i should take more care...............then again wheres the fun in that!

That is a very cheap and easy to fix problem. A quick trip to the tech and it should be in and out of the shop in no time.

I restore and repair horns, and would fix it myself were it one of my horns. a micro torch is all that is required to solder it back.
