PaulyT,
Tambourine? Do you solo with a Sally Ann Band?

They asked me to but I was too drunk

I use the tambourine when I'm just singing - songs like Radar Love where I don't play guitar. It's sort of like a prop more than an instrument.

a "prop" ? -= I have a 'rhythm' stick that I sometimes use - that could be used as a prop. It's made from an old aluminium crutch that I found in a skip. I drilled holes down it's length and fitted flattened beer bottle tops along it. Works a treat, and looks great. Good for shaking at the management to get the money after the gig too! >:)

I played one of those once (on stage with Robyn Hitchcock and the Soft Boys, minor namedrop-spotters) but it was made out of a stout broomstick with tinkly and jingly things attached all over it. I believe the official name for this instrument is a 'zob-stick'. How you'd fit one in a gig-bag I have no idea.

Andy, fiddler with Los Chicos Meurtos, also plays a bucket bass, a variant on the old skiffle tea-chest bass which takes up a lot less room. It works, too!

I have a tendency to wax lyrical about good kit which does what it should and does it well, so I'll spare you the evangelising and keep this short!

I've had one of these on my belt for the last twenty years -

Not the same one I'll admit... The first one needed replacing after twelve years although, in its defence, that was after someone borrowed it to knock in some nails (which is fine) and then used the nylon side panels to do so (which isn't!). Don't put it in your pocket though as

a) Everyone will think you're pleased to see them
b) It'll wear through you pocket lining in short order.

The vendor has good prices and does the proper belt pouches too, but customer service is poor.

I'd also recommend a Petzl headtorch. They can be used as a normal torch but give the option of hands-free lighting as well. Mine's a Tikka XP

...which is (just about) light enough to be comfortable and (when you want it to) puts out enough light to shame a 3D cell Maglite.

I tried picking up my gig bag...

I then received a clip on condensor mic for my birthday (this wednesday, but my dads in Australia from tomorrow) so the mic stand and other mic etc. was removed.

I tried picking it up again to much better effect.

Unfortunately I've come down with tonselitus so can't test it out as sax playing is out of the question. Out comes the guitar, but it means no singing, though I guess that'snot a bad thing.

I have a wonderfully and characterfully battered original case with my 50-year old 10M, but it was getting increasingly frail so it has been retired to house the discarded mouthpieces and an ancient C-Melody alto that may one day get restored, while the Conn resides in a Ritter bag - not ideal but I couldn't run to a Protec - along with; Runyon Quantum mouthpiece I occasionally use for extra projection, Yamaha pull-through and numerous and probably deeply insanitary cleaning things, loads of reeds, rubber bands, bits of baking parchment paper (better for de-stickying than Rizlas, I've found) and old set-lists. In a separate bag I have my "entertainment" for non-sax-playing numbers - bright yellow tambourine and a bright green "Blast Block" which I hit the hell out of with an ancient drumstick, plus the clip-on mike. I've just bought a DigiTech 300 effects processor though, so now I need a bigger bag 🙁

and being sold by that tiny place round the back of east croydon station that theyve almost managed to make look impressive in the pictures

maybe this should be inthe other thread but
i knew someone who worked in a homeless shelter in london and in amongst a load of clothes they got donated was a sax gig bag (apparently it took them nearly an hour to work out what it was, and then only because it had a label on it) so i got that, slightly damaged, for free. i stopped using it last year because the pocket was too small for all my junk and the straps werent holding together properly.

back to my fantastically hideous pale brown yamaha case

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
