but does anybody know who played the sax solo on,
"Dou Uap, Dou Uap, Dou Uap" from Gabin,
I think I know who it is but I won't mention it cos I don't want to influence anyone's answer, so I'll write it on a nine bob note and deposit it on my savings account.

No Spike, I don't know. There appears to be many different versions/re-mixes by Gabin (which version are you thinking of?) with reference to different saxophonists.

Think I would put my money (or preferably yours) on Stefano di Battista in a quiz.

Yeh there you go, when I first discovered the track and wanted to identify the saxer, I kept coming up with Alfonso Deidda, but then I saw a reference to Stafano di Battista and Battista is mostly credited on the album version but as you say there are loads of remixes, I've downloaded the EP from iTunes and there 4 versions in that package. I'm baffled. I've got an album by the Deidda brothers - 3 from the ghetto - and I must say it sounds like Deidda, because Battista is a bopper and I can't imagine him playing like that on a groove style thing - maybe I should mail Mr. & Mrs. Gabin, now what's the Italian for " . . . hey muchachos, ciao bella, com? ti ciamo qu? sono saxofono . . . ? - ciao fer now - spike

Seriously though - it gets a tad daunting when theres so much out there to hear, and while I'm hearing new (well old) stuff all the time, only scratching the surface. need a bit of matrix-style uploading of knowledge going on - come to think of it, I'd love to fly an apache helicopter... :erm:
