Thanks! I found the chords for the song so I could make the backing track. It's in a different key from the Skeeter Davis version. I had to change keys so I could play the guitar parts. The sax playing is in the key of A. Everything else in concert G. I wrote the notes out ahead of time so I wouldn't forget where I was, so a combo of dots and ear I guess.

I plug my guitars into the same interface I use for the microphone. The interface has two input channels. The recording software is Logic Pro X, which is the fancy version of Garage Band that you buy from Apple. The software has pre-sets for all kinds of popular guitar amps and settings. You adjust simulated amp controls for reverb, tremolo, echo, overdrive etc, just like the real deal. I hear what I'm playing through my headphones. I use Band in the Box for the basics, like drums and bass and import it into Logic Pro. Then you lay down all your playing tracks and mix them when you're done.

Ok, sort of get that, just had my first snoop at Garage Band, can see its limitations. But how do your get an external backing track in?

I use BIAB on my windows based pc. I save the track as a wav file and copy it to a usb stick. I don't record at my pc since it's in an area not well suited for playing. My recording "studio" is my err... clothes closet, (as you see in the soundcloud pic) and I have a MacBook laptop sitting near by on a dresser. I transfer the back track to the MacBook via the usb stick and copy it to the desktop. From there it's just a matter of dragging it over to the Logic Pro screen as a track. Garage Band for the Mac OS is much more sophisticated than the Ipad version. Importing stuff with the Ipad is too much of a pain anyway.

Correct, just drag it over and line it up so it becomes one of the tracks. Garage Band will take almost any format. Wav, mp3, m4a, to name a few.

Excellent, Jimmy! Great job on the remix too - the 2nd version sounds much better to me.

Recording and mixing is all new to me and I've been trying to read up on it on the web. I'd be interested to hear why you weren't satisfied with version 1 and the adjustments you made to get to version 2.

Thanks Mike! I was trying to go for the early 60's "reverbish" and guitars with tremolo sound to go with the era the song came out in. I was playing back ground chords on the downbeats or what ever you call it. When the drummer raps the stick on the side of the rim. What ever beat that is. On that track I had the reverb cranked all the way up. It sounded all washed out to me. So I backed way off on the reverb on that track and brought the sound level up so I could hear the chords a little better with out hopefully distracting the listener. I have about 4 different tracks of guitar on there.
