Beginner recording Dubrosa22 March 2013

Okay here's a rather ad hoc recording I made last week at my schul. A huge room that's mostly wood panelled with a stone floor so very reverberant acoustics!
Unfortunately my Zoom H1 was just sitting in my open case rather than more strategically placed and properly leveled but I only had one shot at playing this in the main hall.

The tune is by John Zorn. I wish I had time to solo too and really play with the room's sound. Next time.

It works well with an unaccompanied sax. Nice piece.

Dubrosa, sounded very even and fluent. Nice haunting sound with the natural reverb of the room..

It's a bit strange this recording yourself. I can't remember the times I've recorded something thought it was rubbish and then came across it and was quite impressed with it.

I think the real time experience, affects your perception of a recording. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.

Come back to it in a week or so and you'll hear it for what it is. An atmospheric piece that captures a moment in time at a certain place.

I think the quality of the recording gives it a stolen moment feel, like the listener is eaves dropping on a private conversation.

Thanks Colin, you've given me new perspective on this recording.

I suppose if I were to be wholly honest I wanted to post this recording because it was one of my first public performances and also one where I truly was lost in the moment of making music (as short a musical statement it may be).

Irrespective of the results it was a special moment for me but I am delighted if that moment is at all audible.

I've not looked in here for a while. I don't know that piece but it sounded lovely - a really haunting sound.
