Buying a Sax (sorry, another thread on this topic!)

Congratulations on getting it. Its amazing when you open the case for the first time, we were quite happy to sit and stare for ages. We still don't take that for granted 10 months later.

When you happen to mention to your friends that you play a saxophone, two things happen to their faces. The first look is a kind of admiration mixed with surprise, the second look is just pure envy that you as a grown up have dared to try and learn something new. So yes your street cred has gone up 8)

My take on the neighbours thing is that learning to play an instrument is "legitimate noise". As long as you're considerate about the times you play, no one has any right to complain; and I'm sure they won't. I lived in a terraced house during my "honk and squawk" phase and my neighbours were supportive and interested (and they took the p**s a lot!). I think it's important that you don't feel self-conscious about it. Blow hard and free right from the start!
