Birthday present suggestions please!

There are loads of funky sax related gifts out which I'm sure you would enjoy. As a bginner though the most useful things (sorry to be practical for a birthday pressie) would be

- a metronome - invaluable for helping feel the beat especially as reading music is new to you too
- some lessons if you don't have a teacher already to ensure you haven't picked up any bad habits - they are so hard to 'unlearn'. A good teacher would also advise you on mouthpiece and reed choices.
- some ear training software - band in box has some inbuilt I think. Band in a Box is also a great play along programme with all types of music and styles.
- loads of music to help bring on the reading and just play, play, play

You sound like you are already having such fun - and it just gets better 🙂

Lisa,
When you do move,be sure to make contact with The Doncaster Jazz Assoc. They have several bands, Junior ,Intermediate, Senior etc.
By mentioning my name, instead of doors being opened, you will find doors being slammed in your face !!!!
Only joking.

Hi,

It's my birthday soon - I'll be 25 in November.

I'm going to see The Zutons at Doncaster Dome on the last day of my 24th year, but that was a present I bought myself (I can't wait to see Abi Harding playing her funky horn!)

I think I'd like to ask for sax related presents this year, any suggestions? I have a Jupiter Sax, it's a beginner/intermediate model (769BL) and I was thinking of maybe a mouthpiece as I'm using the one that came with the sax at the moment. I'd also like a music stand, but is there one on the market that folds right down to a size I can stick in a cupboard or drawer?

Any ideas?

I have just started using a Selmer mouthpiece, which is really great! I bought it for a tenner about 10 years ago but never used it, I can't remember what type it is. I think it says 'D' Solo on it.
Otherwise, there is a stand for your Sax that wraps up into a bag and can go inside the bell of your sax (lots of rubber on it).
Have you got a padsaver? They are essential.
Happy B'Day!
Stu.

Hi Stuart, :w00t:

Nice to see that pint again.

I have been thinking about a mouthpiece and hear the Selmer C* is a good 'un but will try some out.

I have a stand for my sax, as you can see in my pic. What I need is a stand for my music to read whilst I play. It has to fold really small though as I'm about to move into my boyfriend's tiny flat in Sheffield! (The neighbours will love me...!)

I use a pull-through for my horn, and a smaller one for the crook on my sax each time I've finished playing. I also leave the sax out on the stand most of the time so I don't have a pad saver.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
