Hi, I have just started having a problem with G and A always trying to start an octave up, only by concentrating very hard can I get them to start cleanly. Any ideas?

You've got a leak somewhere. Shove a light down it and find it. (on baritone, you've typically got to take off the low C key and feed it in there)

It's a Yamaha(ish) copy - so a problem with the A/G transition often points to an issue with the octave mech...and it's often a problem with the regulation between the dual body octave keys. Might even be the pads themselves.
That's a good place to start.

Problem is 1st octave A and G, would octave mech affect that as is not a problem with any other notes?

Yep, it can do - a leak is a leak, after all. But the A/G transition is where the body octave key switches to the crook key (or just below the crook on modern baris) - so it's always a prime suspect where A/G is concerned. In any event you'd be wise to rule it out before delving deeper.
A lot of those 'copy' mechs can be very tempermental when it comes to buffering...and something as simple as a missing piece of cork/felt under the thumb key can be a cause of such problems.
