Beginner recording Attempt at 2/5/1/ progression..........

This is my attempt at a 2/5/1 progression from an Aebersold jazz for beginners book (with backing track).

I was not going to post this as I was using this tune to get correct sound on zoom H2n (failed badly in parts, makes my higher notes sound awful, I am no expert at them, but better than this)

Anyway, I start off playing 1,3,5 and 7th for first couple of changes, so please stay awake until 49 second mark, where I "loosen" up a little.

I posted this as I need help, so any tips would be greatly appreciated.(Realise it is a bit repetitive)

I am really enjoying playing these progressions (stops me from milking one blues scale).

Neat, My daughter gave me an Aebersold beginners jazz book for last Christmas and I decided at that stage it was beyond me and have not looked at it since about Feb, as Alice said it sounded fun. I will have to have another look at it..

I liked the bending you did around 1:37. Sounds like you had allot of fun after the 49 second mark.
Tell me if you need some backing tracks, i got a few at home on my pc, i can mail em to you if you want.

Rob, crack on with that Aebersold book, I just started off with arpeggios for each change, then tried to progress. I still find it hard, however, this has really helped me playing a jazzier sound.

I think that is excellent, inspirational for an oldie learner like me. Must try something similar myself.

You've made a great start. Keep listening to great players for style, articulation, etc. A lot of the time it is not so much the notes you play, but how you play them that makes all the difference.

Thankyou jbtsax, that is sound advice as usual. (although I honestly do not think it is humanely possible to cram anymore listening to jazz into my day).

Maybe some new players? I love all the usual suspects, particularly love Dexters laid back phrasing on ballads, just fantastic.

I am the same... I cram as much Jazz as I can into my day also and I hear each saxophonist has their own effortless way of communicating their feelings for the music through their playing.. Difficult to explain... But it's effortless because of their experience and their invaluable knowledge of the instrument. I've got my favourites of course and listening to them really gets into my heart and soul, no exaggeration. I will go away to
Practice and hear in my head HOW I want to Play a piece, smoothly and with the same expression as you'd give in a conversation, intonation and reflection etc but it's not something which works until you have that knowledge of the notes and the tone down "pat" ... But it's there in all of us, I'm sure. I hope I'm making sense.

Should keep you busy for a coupl'a years ;-) I've got some more ideas for you for ii-V-1's, I did a lot of this kind of stuff about 15 years ago in one of my fanatical phases. I'll dig around in my archives when I get a minute. There's a lot more to the subject than is initially apparent.

Wow thank you Spike, I have just started it. Jazz theory still an alien language in many ways to me, but I am really trying to break through with it, little by little.......
