Mouthpieces Another MPC thread :S

Hey

I found out that i'm in big need of an classical mouthpiece for my tenor saxophone.
Vandoren or Selmer my only be my options here I live because im in little hurry on getting one. :S

Any suggestions?

Current equiped with:

Tenor sax: P. Mauriat 66R
Mouthpiece: JodyJazz HR7

S80/S90 D or E facing.

You find that classical musicians don't fuss as much as jazzers on mouthpieces.

S80 does everything well and is a great piece, one of my favorites for classical. The S90 is slightly more expensive but is a bit better than the S80 as it is a bit smoother. My proper favorite for classical. Go to sax.co.uk their delivery is super quick, and they have extensive stocks, Yanigasawa ebonites are nice but pricey, I'm not keen on vandorean mouthpieces for classical music, they tend to be a bit extreme in my chops, but mouthpieces are different for everyone.

The S80/S90 is good because everyone can get on with them, some mouthpieces seem to have a select few people who love them, and others who loath them, but the Selmers just work pure and simple.

I have just had the misfortune to drop my Yamaha 4c. Smashing it on the laminate floor. I tried sax.co and asked for a Selmer S80 C*
But they said they were having problems getting selmer MP's and offered me a Yanagisawa 5 at the same price.(saving me ?20). I decided to give it a try and I cannot believe the excellent results. Even my teacher was gob smacked when he heard it. I would certainly recommend this mouthpiece.

Yes the Yanigasawas are great mouthpieces as well, great deal getting it at the Selmer price, it was the price that stopped me from getting one.

I'm a fairly new convert to yanagisawa MPs having always detesting their horns. ive played my current ones for about 3 years now and i'm very pleased with all of them..In my opinion they are the best with my old brand dukoff coming second.. all others MPs cower in their shadow...just my opinion..

I assume they are the metal jazz mouthpieces? I've looked at those and they're definitely on my list to try.

yes, you will love them..they seem to do it all for me.. i use a 7 on all my saxes..with a fairly soft reed.. they play real quiet and also very loud, with a pure tone.. they seem to do it for me..
but i have noticed that dukoff have a few new models out,, i will not be able to resit trying them..i hope they are rubbish as a set of new metal MPs don't come cheap.. 🙂

I like Selmer mpc's, they are what I keep coming back to on alto and tenor (Soloists), and I use a S80 exclusively on soprano. I must be one of the many who just get on with Selmers. I have a metal alto mpc, an old Brilhart Levelaire, which I got used to very quickly (despite the dire warnings about the amount of squeaks new users of metal mpc's can expewrience), but I couldn't get on at all with the Yanagisawa metal mpc for alto; far too much squeaking and a little on the bright side for me, with my Yamaha horn. I have yet to try a metal mpc on tenore.
