My daughter Hannah & I are now possessed of an alto and a tenor. We're keen to play duets. Does anyone have any recommendations of alto/tenor duet books suitable for relative beginners which are more pop/jazz than classically oriented? For some examples we like ?Fly me to the moon?, ?All my lovin? ?, ?I get a kick out of you? and ?Smoke on the water? (I kid you not).

Cheers,

Bob

I'd love to be possessed by my saxophones 😛

have a listen to 'chasing the bird' maybe you could come up with your own duet arrangements of some easier tunes, based on that kind of idea.

Try this one

I managed to get some unusual combinations; my son plays clarinet and I managed to get some duets for Clarinet and Baritone sax!

They have quite a wierd mix of mainly classical stuff.

Failing that get some sheet music of the pieces you like and some notation software and have a go at arranging some yourself, you'll be surprised at how good it'll sound!

Here's a site for some music for duets or quartets:

Spartan Press ( http://www.spartanpress.co.uk/ ) does some flexible ensemble pieces that are quite good for beginners. They are printed for 2-4 instruments, any mixture of Bb or Eb.

I seem to recall that they have blues collections, christmas collections, etc. All graded according to difficulty. So you might get what you're looking for there.

Hi Bob. I've just done a search of my archive (attic) You could take a look at a couple of books by James Rae. "Easy Jazzy Duets" and "Jazzy Duets" This one is a little more difficult. They can be played AA or TT or by using the seperate part for tenor AT. There are no CDs with these. "Play it Cool" comes with a CD. This one is not a duet book, but it does come with parts for both saxes. The tunes are great fun. So play em together if you wish. A real band was used to record the backing tracks. The books are published by Universal Edition. Have fun and keep up the good work.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
