Adjusting key heights

How can you adjust key heights? My Buescher has a slight intonation problem around top G and A where it goes sharp. I was looking at it and it seemed that I could lower the heights of the keys lower down to solve the problem.

Is there a quick adjustment I can make? Or is this a job for a technician?

Hi Bruce,

you can adjust the keyheights by using thicker cork to the key feet.

What you can do is place the cork (dry) under the feet until you have the right height - then glue the dork onto the feet or alternatively you could glue felt to the body of the instrument where the cork on the feet come in contact with the body.

But for the best results take it in to your repairer.

Heed Griff's advice unless you don't mind a lot of fiddling.

If the notes are sharp in both registers you might get somewhere, but if only the upper register the problem may lie elsewhere (usually mouthpiece compatability). If you adjust the heights for sharpness in the upper register, you will probably end up with flat or stuffy sounding lower register.
