A Strange Thing Happened This Afternoon

I'm glad to say the tenor playing is coming along after my despondence of last week. Forum advice played a big part and I feel a lot happier with it this week.

Anyway, this afternoon I was playing (trying) the alto sitting down quietly as I've hurt my back (damn that tenor). I had a couple of song books out and wanted to see if I had got better or what other tunes I could now play with a few more notes under my belt. I suddenly realised ........ I rather like the old alto more than I thought! I'm playing a 2.5 reed on it now - up from 2 and the sound and tone was rather nice. :?

Once you get the bug they all com flooding in.

I too prefer the tenor, and every time I pick up my Alto I think 'How could I possibly not have one of these?'

Then I pick up the tenor and say 'This is awesome, I actually NEED one of these. It's the epitome of cool'

So I walk over to the soprano and think 'So sweet a tone, and so portable, this is essential for a saxophonist!'

And then I get the baritone out 'Such a presence and a great big beefy sound. These really should be illegal. I need to buy my own.'

It goes on and on. Only when you become insane will you say one's enough.

Oh yes you can! In fact you must! Maybe not right away, but a few months, a year or two down the line you'll replace whichever rental horn you send back.

There is something lovely about sitting down playing on an alto, but I'm a bit like Linky, the one I love most is the one I've got in me gob at the time. Standing back and trying to be a bit more objective, I'd have to say the alto is my best love, as it was my first love (in terms of saxophones), and my favourite players seem to be predominantly altoists.
