A place to call my own.

My attendance at this forum has been scarce to say the least, but I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm JT, and I'm a senior in highschool and have been playing sax since 6th grade. Don't have one of my own yet, but I'm working on it. I prefer the tenor, especially when it isn't breaking down. I hoping to find a place to relax and learn a thing or two.

Hi JT!

A big welcome to Cafe Sax from the Skabertawe Horn Section........:shocked::w00t:;}
I assume that you are from the US - this is a friendly place and a good learning environment, so ask away with any queries you might have, and do share your knowledge, insights and keep us up to date with your development!

Kind regards
Tom:cool:

I'm an Alto man myself, and am aware that altos CAN be seen primarily as a beginner sax, rather than a specialised instrument in its own right.

Hi JT

Welcome to the cafe sorry to hear you don't have your own sax yet, don't they have any systems over there where you can permanently have a loan of an instrument so you can practice at home as and when you want.We have a student loan system over here. All the best with your playing and enjoy it...john

I imagine that JT has the ongoing use of a school instrument, but not yet got one for personal use......

Hi JT, welcome, in my band us tenor players tell the alto players that when they grow up they can become tenor players. So good choice...
Only kidding before i get some backlash...
Anyway enjoy the forum, Phil

As you've made a formal intro JT, this is a formal welcome!

Altos - beginners.... growing up...?! You know how mean us Croydon and Saarf Lunnun boys down here South of the Thames can get if crossed, so just watch it!

Hi JT,

Welcome back to the Cafe! Boy the Alto/Tenor debate!!!! I would likwe to have both, but at present am very happy with Tenor as I love the lush sonority and variaty of tones that a tenor is capable of, but no doubt the alto is a very lyrical instrument, and course much more popular in modern pop music.

If not sure I would buy an Alto first as it is cheaper and easier to drag around, and most commonly inj demand.

Regards Rikki

Yes I imagine he might but by the sound of it,it could be an old battered worn out thing belonging to the school band. I just thought he might be better off with a loan instrument that would probably be new if they run this system over there...john

I may be getting a Bari to call my own. A Martin in fact. :spasm: But I posted a thread in the horn/accessories forum for that.

I'm sad that I'm so far behind you guy's timezone.
