Hi all,
I just wondered if anyone could help me,i have a few questions, and i didnt want to wait another week until i see my teacher again.
1. i have just started on my major scales and arpeggios, and at the beginning where the time signature would be, it has 2 sharp signs, one for a C and one for a F. I understand the Csarp as it is on the line where a C note is, but why is the F sharp sign up higher than the C. It has totally confused me.
2. Also i have just started playing slured notes, when there is a bar with 4 notes and the slurred sign is under the 1st ends one the 4th note, does this mean you only tounge the first note??

Sorry if i sound really stupid, but i have only been playing for 3 weeks, and this is the first experience i have had of anything musical. Thanks 😉

1.

The sign for F# should be higher up because it should be on the F line (the top line). C# and F# in the key sig mena you are in the key of D.

2. Yes. If it ends before the 4th note (ie on the 3rd note, you would tongue the first and fourth note.

oh ok thanks for that, this has really confused me!!! i probably seem really stupid.
So if the F is on the bottom line as u read the music, y dont they put the sharp down on the bottom line with it?? >.<

[color😛urple]They only put it on once, but it refers to all (both?) Fs.
(But I don't know why - I've only been learning music a few months!!!)

F is not the bottom line, it's the top line. An octave lower F is the bottom space.

As they say, magz, the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask 🙂

Welcome to the wonderful world of learning a new language, using a new 'alphabet' and totally different 'rules of grammar' 😱

I think I have got as far as being able to say "Two beers, please" and to understand the bill 😛

Hi Magz,

It's tricky to get your head round the notes to begin with so take it easy. I started from scratch about 8 months ago and found it really tricky but with practice came along fast - don't worry.

It might be a good idea to get a good book on music theory. I got a couple of basic ones from the library and they were a great help. I think they were "Idiot's guide to music" and "Rough guide to reading music" something like that. Also I know it seems obvious but play lots and do scales.

Don't worry about asking what you think are stoopid question on this forum - nobody minds stoopid questions 😉 (or if they do they don't say so >:)
