Hi Berniesax,

The T901 is very much a pro saxophone, I've not played one but hope to soon.

This might provide you with a little more information:

Yanagisawa

All the best,

Chris

Hi, they are a pro horn with the Yanni solid build and great feel etc, very clean sound and i think more on the bright side of the fence, lack's abit of body at time's but neck and mouthpiece switching can help.I really like Yani's but feel there Tenor's are not as great as there soprano's and alto's,the 992 bronze tenor is great. That's my thinking but all taste's are different.I allway's feel i cant push a yani tenor,i hit a wall when blowing it hard for loud gig's,style's etc.

I've played T901 a few times - I was considering buying one. The only real reason I didn't was that I decided to splash out on a T992. The T901 is quite light, pretty bright in tone and has flawless ergonomics and intonation. Definitely a very good horn, and it also comes with a decent mouthpiece, which most saxes don't. All yanagisawas these days (possibly always?) are pro quality.

Hi there!

I notably own one and have had great fun and games trying to get the right sound for me, which I am now happy with.

1. Good option to look at Yani 92 Bronze neck if you want more refined , warmer sound (you may not!)

2. Agree about intonation and ergonomics - first rate.

3. Mouthpiece choice has been a challenge - trying to find the right piece to add body/complexity without reducing the dynamics. I have chosen a Francois Louis Spectruoso ML and will be getting a Pure Brass Lig to go with it. So probably recommend darker mouthpieces, witha degree of complexity as certain pieces can sound too thin - which I found with my V16 metal T77, and to a certain extent my Java T55 (others which were good - from darkest up - were Brancher HRL chamber, Lebayle HR Jazz chamber, Brancher Metal J chamber,Lomax HR NY & HR LA and V16 HR, with V16 and Lomax NY being very good pieces.

4. The T901 is a light sax, and for me needed a little beefing up/colouring in to get the best out of it, soundwise. It also is possibly at its best with more percussive reeds (La Voz seemed good, but prefer the FL mouthpiece with FL Excellence reeds (like DC's).

Hope that helps.
Kind regards

I have a T901 and love it. I use Rico Jazz Select 3m reeds and a Otto Link Super Tone Edge metal mouthpiece. I have had the opportunity to play a Yani 991 and apart from the greater weight, due to metal thickness I presume, I didn't notice a huge difference; certainly not one that would justify the extra 600 or so quid.

My own opinion, others will vary of course.
