Like mine Kev. It has a 4 digit serial number, I've not seen any like that on a list of Martin serial numbers.

Most Indiana saxes had five digit serial numbers. When RMC took over the production (c 1961) of " Martin" saxes they dropped the Indiana brand. After that RMC had "The Martin" (Committee), Martin Medalist and Martin Imperial. It was just "The Martin" that was a committe sax. I think both Medalist and Imperial were based on Handcraft Special. The late Indiana saxes were based on HC Special as well. RMC also bought Reynolds and Blessings and they made saxes with both Reynolds and Blessing names stamped on the bells. Around 1964 Wurlitzer bought RMC and took over the production of saxes. I've seen Wurlitzer made "The Martin" saxes with different serial numbers compared to "The Martin"saxes made under the RMC era. In 1971 Leblanc company bought the brand Martin. The best Leblanc Martins are the ones that Yanigisawa made (880 model).

Back to the "Custombuilt Wurlitzer Exclusive". Maybe it is a sax that is built by Wurlitzer after 1964? Then it's not a stencil. If it built before 1964 then it's a stencil !!! I have never played a Wurlitzer sax made by Martin. But the Indiana I own (from 1959 and 1960) are good players. So I guess your sax is a strong player as well.

I have played a Wurlitzer and owned a number of Martins and stencils and the serial numbers seldom have never run in sync with Martins. Just stick with the sax as they are known as very good players and live with the age mystery.

I was asking him how to join his Dutch sax forum Prof. The Dutch have a deserved reputation for their relaxed and permissive attitude to life, I thought I might enjoy a forum with a more tolerant attitude.

Always helps to put a translation, I thought it was in the context of the Martin thread.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
