Saxophones Wireless mic and reverb effects

Check out the warning at the bottom. Just saw it;

As long as you don't melt the circuit board, sniff the fumes then drink the molten plastic and metals then you should be okay. 😉

The attached photo is from E Bay this week. Looks like an upgrade on the positioning of the transmitter and a smaller transmitter itself.

That's the updated version. More expensive but has all the things the older version needs - properly attached (and replaceable) mic, mutli-channel receiver.

You Are Now Free to Roam About the Stage.
Featuring the world's smallest clip-on transmitter with a shockmounted microphone and adjustable gooseneck, this frequency-agile UHF wireless system provides high definition sound and 300' of reliable wireless operation for saxophones, trumpets, trombones and other wind instruments.

ATX-tend Your Reach
The AWX system continues Samson's longstanding commitment to wireless innovation. Designed to be an extension of your instrument rather than a separate component, the ATX Wireless Transmitter clips directly to your instrument bell with no beltpack or cable necessary and lets you rule the stage with confidence. It provides infrared sync to wirelessly match the receiver and transmitter frequency, easily accessible Gain and Mute controls, a battery life LED indicator and an 8-hour rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

Mic the Wind
The ATX transmitter features a HM60 condenser microphone with 3-point halo isolation mount to minimize any noise caused by mechanical vibration. The mic capsule offers a supercardioid pickup pattern that handles up to 125dB SPL, ideal for handling the sudden attack of wind instruments. The HM60 also offers an 8.5" adjustable gooseneck (with P3 connector) for optimal mic placement in front of your instrument’s bell.

Road-agile
Offering frequency-agile operation, the system's rack mountable CR99 Wireless Receiver provides 80 selectable channels for reliable performance no matter where you are. The receiver's True RF Diversity design minimizes dropouts, while tone key technology prevents unwanted noise when your transmitter is off or out of range.

Hi John

That’s interesting something is keeping Gear 4Music and Sax.co.uk from buying the Samson Airline 77 in . I asked both and though previously stocked its no longer and not in the future either.
Back to the drawing board, I need to practice anyway maybe getting too distracted by the promise of delay and echo. Or I gamble and buy direct from a Sansom dealer in America.

Well Chris, I had never seen or heard about the DEHP issue. I did find several online stores in the states that have posted;
"Status Not Available "

At any rate there are many other units on the market to consider and if you want delay and reverb/echo it is probably best, as previously suggested to use a separate rack mount unit. Good luck.

My CR99/ATX w HM60 mic for my sax works great indoors but embarrassed me w the excessive wind noise at a packed outdoor event. Is there another wind screen I can put over the existing one or do you have any suggestions ?? I never had this problem with the old airline systems (I had 2) and I want to stick with Samson.

Hi NorCal neighbor.
I would try contacting the Samson support directly.
Click on “where to buy” and find a local dealer is another option.

AI Overview

Reducing wind noise on the Samson HM60 condenser microphone (used in the AirLine AWX wind instrument wireless system) requires physical baffling or filtering since it is a close-up clip-on horn mic exposed to air currents during outdoor or live playing.

How to Reduce Wind Noise on the HM60
    • Use a foam windscreen: Ensure the foam cover that comes with the Samson AirLine AWX Wind Instrument System is snugly fitted over the supercardioid capsule to break up direct airflow. [1, 2, 3]
    • Adjust microphone placement: Use the 8.5-inch gooseneck to angle the capsule slightly away from the direct path of air or wind turbulence coming off the bell of the instrument or the environment. [1, 2]
    • Apply a low-frequency roll-off (high-pass filter): Wind noise is mostly low-frequency rumble; engaging a high-pass filter on your mixer or interface (around 80Hz–100Hz) cuts out the heavy bass thump of the wind. [1]
    • Add a custom mini furry/deadcat: If standard foam isn't enough in high-wind outdoor settings, look for a small custom lavalier-style furry windscreen that can slip over the small HM60 capsule element. [1]

In a (very) previous life I used to work in noise and vibration control. We used a lot of these, which were alarmingly expensive but which worked as well as anything does to reduce wind noise:

These are a ball of (carefully-specified) open-cell foam, but a previous version can be seen here:

I have one somewhere - it's basically a wire cage with someone's wife's nylons stretched over it. If I were looking for a home-made approach, I could imagine messing with a wire kitchen whisk for the frame - you're on your own with a source for nylons
🙂

(Incidentally - low Bb on a tenor is about 100Hz fundamental, and baritone is 65Hz, so that might inform where your high-pass filter cut-off might need to be set. A bit of loss of fundamental will change the timbre but not the apparent pitch of your low notes, which would be implied by the frequency relationship between the remaining (pass-band) harmonics. That's probably too fancy and you can just suck it and see.)
