I was thinking about that the other day - 'Where is Bobby G?' I think one of his last postings was that he was joining a band, perhaps? Wrestling with those ATM machines? A few months ago he was absent for a time and I think Bob had said he was working overtime.
I miss his postings and comments, reflections on life.
Where are you Bobby G.?

Maybe. People come and go that's the way it is. One day I'll trawl through the archives and link to some of the very first threads if I can find them.

Ken is still lurking from time to time I think (hello Ken), and then there was Melissa (one of the very first members) who disappeared then came back briefly and then went away again.

IT probs. Much work as a round of redundancies followed by a mass outbreak of sickies has meant I'm all over t'place (stick of Felixstowe rock anyone?) and doing much ovies. Still getting in plenty of playing though 🙂 Unfortunately the band thing wasn't really me so I've passed on that, but the jams continue...

A coupla weeks back I caught a totally fascinating programme on BBC4 about the alphorn! You wouldn't believe how restrictive the Traditional Yodellers Association are about how the alphorn should be used, but some modernists have cut loose from that - avant garde or jazz alphorn, believe it!

I saw that programme too. Absolutely fascinating. Also saw a great series called Jazz Britannica on BBC 4 recently. Lots of great music featured and lots of footage of fine saxophonists like Bobby Wellins and Joe Herriott. Great stuff.

Alastair Hanson was telling me last year that he'd been asked to play the alphorn, at some sort of 'Alpine do' I think, and he was shocked to see the world's leading exponent of the instrument in the audience 😱

ISTR that he invited him onstage to take a bow, and that the 'expert' was very gracious.

(Alastair is a horn player, but doesn't claim to be in that league on the alphorn!)

In that case, Dave Bitelli is a bit good. I hadn't heard the song in years, and it really jumps out of the radio in a most refreshing way. Plus it makes a nice change to hear a lesser-played JJ tune, usually they play safe with Stepping Out or Is She Really Going Out With Him.
