I was wondering what the screw on the left side (near the thumb rest) is used for ? I just happen to absently turn it around when l am carrying my sax on my lap and doing something else (like watching TV or listening music).

have you got a picture of said screw?

Hi Griff,

The picture is attached. Sorry the screw is not near the thumb rest, its near the neck joint

That's the screw for fixing a lyre to the instrument - used by military & marching bands to hold the music.

OK, thanks a lot Colin ! So no harm turning it as much as I like then.

That Walstein Alto your sporting there pkreli looks remarkably similar to my G4M alto and of course the Yani 991 on which its modelled.

One and the same instrument maybe?

Simon

Yes indeed ! Maybe they're from the same factory.

G4M do have very nice presentation of their products in their website (the 3D picture gallery).

They might look the same, but they're from a completely different factory.
If you wander round a trade show where the Chinese are showing their horns you'll see the same designs cropping up again and again.
If you look closer though you'll see small differences in how they're put together - and if you play them you'll note big difference in how the horns respond.
