After hearing Bartok's "Contrasts" about 45 years ago, I bought the clarinet score. I practiced it on guitar, where you can easily move up and down the frets. It's a good blues/funk/rock lick in the right place. But I give it to you here to try it. Practice it a few times, in whatever key you like, then try it in that key once, then one half step up and back. The accent should be on each E of measure 1. (in concert C below but written for A clarinet on the video)

I see I did not exactly recall the music properly. The clarinet plays the first part pretty fast -- if you want to try the riff out, I suggest 70 bpm, not the 140 this is played at in the video -- but it's the violin that completes the phrase. That section is here:

There are plenty of cool chromatic phrases that can be studied in this area, it's actually a great piece of music. I see why my younger self was attracted to it.
