Yeah - I was eager to become a grown-up.I don't know what would have happened if I'd asked for a cup of coffee at 10 or so, would my parents have let me have it? I didn't WANT coffee at that age, the taste and smell were unappealing.
Then I grew up. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. Black coffee, Scotch whiskey, raw oysters, sushi, brussels sprouts, bleu cheese, stewed okra, radicchio salad. (Never took up cigars, and at this point in life I rather expect I never will.)
Smoking, drinking, never thinking ‘bout tomorrow. Nonchalant…
I love that song. And that line from it kind of mirrors my whole approach to life from my teens until my late 30’s. Luckily for me I figured some things out then, though it was painful at the time.
BTW I agree with you about cigars. I smoked everything else though…
