if thats the correct terminology! the keys to the left that control G# c# b and bb and the linking tubes to the big keys on the bell is my problem. i have an alto yamaha yas 875ex custom and the tubes that connect the table keys to the pads on the bell move about 2 mm both ways. the keys dont sit properly and are clicking becuase of this movement of the tubes. i havent dropped it atal, had it for 4 months and play it every day but look after it loads, wondered if anyone has had the same thing or no's what i need to do and how much it will cost or anythin! or indeed if anyone understands a thing ive just wrote

Hi natalie - The set of keys you are talking about are commonly know as the left hand pinky table -so yes you are correct.

I am assuming you mean 2mm play in both directions as the key rods moving up and down.

Firstly check that the pivot screws on the top which hold those keys in place are tight - i suspect that they will be as it is unlikely that they have come loose all at the same time.

I suspect that the arm that holds the top posts for those keys has been knocked slightly.

take it to the shop where you bought it from - if its convenient - and get their repairer to have a look.

Where are you located?

A repairer will be able to sort it out in under and hour.

They may not charge you anything for it at the shop because it is still under warrenty.

If you were to take it to a private repairer they'd charge you an minimum hourly rate. My nearest repair shop has ?20 as their minimum, but they always do a good job and work for the hour on it if they can.

thanks griff136! yeah they do move 2mm each way, exactly like you described is how it is!

the screws are fine and tightly secure. the only thing i can think is that it was knocked by putting it in my case but im always carefull. as its in its warantee i hope they would do it for free. I got it from sax.co.uk a 3 hour drive from where im situated in west midlands. so i dont want to travel down there if they are going to charge me as much as it would cost to get a repairer up here to do it. ive never had to have my sax repaired before so have no knowledge of if this is a typical fault? or if it definatley only done by being knocked cuz if so i havent bumped it and want to know how its happened!! i cant see how all the rods and keys have moved at the same time.
cheers

the arm that holds the posts probably needs "coaxing" back into position. - Basically a slight tap with a rawhide or canvas hammer will do the trick iuf it is what I suspect.

if you go to www.namir.org.uk you should be able to find a repairer in your area.

good luck and keep us posted.
