Tab Spring

I have a new Yamaha YTS62 and the little spring that activates the opening of the pad for bottom C# is giving me all sorts of problems. It`s too weak to open the pad normally but giving it a slight bend to strengthen the action more, results in it jumping of the little hook that holds the spring. Service is not readily available. Does anyone else have this problem? The Yamaha alto is fine. Russ 🙁

Hi Russ. I occasionally have a problem with the bottom C# on my YTS23, but it's generally a bit of stickipad. I guess as your 62 is new it's probably not the pad sticking.

As a general fiddler with things, and without a great deal of actual 'knowledge', I'd say trial and error to get the spring tension and angle how you want 'em, but just don't overdo it. Small steps at a time, y'know....

I've got a 62 and yeah the C* is prone to sticking, but lifting it off at the start of playing is usually suffice for it to work fine afterwards. If it doesn't and you cant get it sorted by bending the spring a tad, I dont really know what to suggest.

Hmmm - Not really much help really is it that? ah well. Sure someone has the wisdom on here to help ya.

Thanks Oli and Bob. Yes the initial stickey pad ,as well, contributes to the problem, but as you say a release at the start of playing resolves this. I think I`ll just avoid C#s till I get to a "fixer". It`s still under warranty so I`ll let them nut it out. Russ

If you are experiencing a sticky pad, short of applying a product such as "Charlie A's Gig Dust" or other such treatments, closing the pad onto a dollar (or Pound/Euro note) and smoothly pulling it out from the gently closed keypad, both before and after playing, will help to keep the pad from causing such a problem.

Fine Michael, OK on the dollar bills and pound euros. Our lowest note is a $5. The main problem tho` is the spring and trying to keep the end on its little southern hook. Russ
