(Sub) contra bass duet ??

Hi all,

I have searched the forums, but so far failed to find this...

I'm sure that a while ago, someone posted a link to a video of a sub-contrabass sax duet.

I recall two men both sitting, wrapped around some huge saxes (huge as in fat, not especially tall like a contrabass, which is why I'm thinking it's sub-contra bass)

If anyone can find the link for me, I'd be most grateful.

I've also searched You-Tube, but not found it yet.

but I don't think this is the one I remember.
The guys were definitely sitting down and the saxes were fat, sort of "compact" in some way, maybe only 4 feet tall or so, but really fat, the guys arms were stretched around them....

... or maybe I'm just confused.

If your thinking of getting one it looks like Meheeco might be the place to buy judging by the church they must be ten a penny over there,at least thats where it looks like it might be unless it's one of those obscure South American countries....Happy Hunting....John

Not at all I had no idea it was Brazil,thought it might be Mexico due to the fact that Conn had their saxes made there and thought obviously wrongly that they may also make large saxes as well,manufacturers of these being a little thin on the ground,it was just a thought that some S American countries might have economies that suited the manufacturing of these larger instuments at reasonable prices.I found it quite amazing that there was such a large number of these enormously expensive instruments present at a church band.I had no intention to have a go at Brazil as I know very little about it other than it seems to have an abundance of cheap labour provided by a large proportion of their people living in poverty which seems to be an ideal situation for expanding economies throughout the world these days....Regards....john

Well, a lot of the ideas held by many on Brazil economics are based on the old situation and crisis happened many years ago. Things are VERY different now!

It is one of the most vibrant economies in the world and prices of everything aren no longer cheap nor is labour (at least not compared to China or Vietnam ....) .

I have many friends in Brazil and yes there are many poor people over there but inequality is the situation in the USA too but that doesn’t make it a third world country.

However.

Brazilians seem to have a predilection for low sounding instruments and bass saxophones extending to low G are common and so are the subcontrabasses (compact or not) .

Thanks for the very interesting links and totally agree that America has poverty problems just as much as any other country you want to mention.I have never thought of Brazil as being a third world country and to be truthful I think this is a little box that has been invented that the politico's see as a nice place they can drop counties into that in truth has very little meaning.I am not a politician nor an economist and so only have my own instincts to react to and have to say that from my own observations it seems more and more that the world is being controlled by the enormously wealthy for their own ends with little regard for the lives of the majority of the people where ever that might be.But as a cab driver in Manchester there is very litte I can do to change this situation and as most governments of the world seem to be in bed with these people I think the power of my vote is a totally futile exercise because you can pick anyone you like and get exactly the same result with buerocrats the world over pandering to the will of the wealthy and business classes and hoping they will throw the rest of us a few scraps...regards....john
